Sak Yant Tattoo techniquesThe different ways of engraving tattoosTraditional or mechanically? The traditionalway of engraving a Sak Yant tattoo Traditionally, Sak Yant were engraved into the skin by a bamboo stick or a metal stick. The stick measures approximately 50 cm in length. So it was thousands of years ago, and so the tradition will survive further in hundreds of years by some monks. This method is painful. If the needle is used long time and continuously, the peak blunts. This means that the monk must run a bigger effort to pierce the lines like a sewing machine into the skin, and it also means also that the wounds are bigger. At almost every traditional engraved Sak Yant some blood is flowing. This Ajan uses a cosmetic tattoo needle for engraving Sak Yant Tattoos As already mentioned, the traditional way of piercing a tattoo is a work, in which besides concentration a little effort of power is required. Some Ajans and monks are very famous and a lot of people visit them every day. When a monk or a Ajan have to accomplish a kind of 'assembly line work' because so many people come to them, many times the electric needle will be taken. It must not be a normal tattoo machine, in this example, a single thin needle was used for the Sak Yant. This tattoo machine you can fiund in cosmetic applications, like eyebrow tattoos. Because of the very thin needle, very fine lines and tiny letters can be tattooed.
Whether a Sak Yant is engraved traditionally or by machine is nowadays no longer important. If you want to have a magical Yantra tattoo, then choose the monks or the Ajan by his magical abilities and by his reputation, and not by the quality of his work. If you want to have just a beautiful image of a Sak Yant into your skin, then you better goto a good tattoo studio where an artist is working. He will engrave you a beautiful picture on your body, but with Sak Yant or magic, this has nothing to do.
